Halloween is almost here which means it's time for Susanna Leonard Hill's Halloweensie! THE CONTEST: write a 100 word Halloween story appropriate for children (children here defined as 12 and under) (title not included in word count) using the words slither, treat, and scare. Below is my 100-word entry. Enjoy, and Happy Halloween! Wilhelmina the WitchThe moon slithered against the hillside and rose into the black sky. Wilhelmina’s cauldron bubbled something fierce while bats circled outside. Suddenly, an unwelcome noise filled the air.
KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK. Wilhelmina froze. Despite the scare, she returned to her cauldron. Seconds later, the sound returned. KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK. “Who goes there?” shrieked Wilhelmina. Silence hung like a heavy blanket. “Answer me!” the old witch commanded. KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK. Wilhelmina grabbed her broomstick and sprinted for the door. She swung it open to an unsightly scene. There before her was her worst nightmare— children! Together they sang, “Trick or Treat!”
